SEO Costs: How much does it cost to optimize a website? Is it really another cost or a positive return of investment ROI? Let’s start from the beginning…
What is SEO?
The term SEO comes from the initials of the words Search Engine Optimization – SEO. In other words, this is the set of actions that are performed either on the site itself or outside it, in order to be able to bring our website as high as possible in the ranking of organic search engine results.
In even simpler words…
I have an eshop that sells e.g. shoes. My goal is when a user enters the word “shoes” (keyword) in a search engine, our site is as high as possible in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).
Do I Need SEO For My Website?
Without too many words… YES. Research has shown that the Click Through Rate (CTR), ie the percentage of results that are clicked, belongs to> 90% of the first page entries (April 2020 data) and less than 10% of users move to the next pages. The most organic traffic of course, goes to the 3 first places.
Google is the main search engine worldwide with more than 92% of total share worldwide.
How Many SEO “Types” Are There?
The website optimization process consists of 2 separate but inextricably linked pieces.
That of the on-page, which concerns actions that take place within our own website (eg title formation, appropriate use of keywords, etc.) and the off-page that concerns actions that we actually carry out to “advertise” it on outside world.
A little more detailed:
On-Page Optimization: In search engine optimization, on-page optimization refers to factors that have an effect on your Web site or Web page listing in natural search results. These factors are controlled by you or by coding on your page. Examples of on-page optimization include actual HTML code, keyword usage, title & description tags, internal linking, image optimization etc.
Off-Page Optimization: In search engine optimization, off-page optimization refers to factors that have an effect on your Web site or Web page listing in natural search results. These factors are off-site in that they are not controlled by you or the coding on your page. Examples of off-page optimization include things such as link popularity and page rank.
SEO Costs and how long dies it take?
With more than 200 millionwebsites aiming for the top of Google Search results, the competition is pretty high. Unfortunately, SEO takes a lot of effort in order to bring you measurable results. For a new website, a reasonable time is at least 6-12 months (maybe longer depending on the target market and the competition) is necessary to start seeing good results.
If our website has already high authority and the domain is quite old, then yes the results come much faster. Certainly, conquering the top in Google SERPs does not come in a few hours!
Ok I did SEO for 3 Months. Can I stop now?
Unfortunately not… This reminds me of going to the gym for a month after every Easter to be on the beach for the coming summer. Surely there are these cases (and there are many). However, the one who wants to be healthy 365 days a year exercises for the remaining 11 months. That is what happens to seo too.
How Much SEO Cost at last?
This question can only be answered if we take into consideration many factors / data such as:
- The age of the domain, previous optimization efforts, any penalties you have accepted
- The composition / structure / development platform / complexity / size of the website
- The current ranking of the website in the organic results for the keywords / keywords that you want to find
- The size of the competition in the target market that your online business belongs to
- The number of keywords you want to target as well as the search engines you want to star in (eg for someone whose target market is Russia, the Yandex search engine will have priority over Google)
- The geographical area you want to cover (local, national or international) and the target languages
And the list goes on and on. At this point I would like to give an order of magnitude for the cost.
As you will understand by now the reason that most SEO professionals do not give a direct answer to this question is not because they avoid or are unable to do so but because of the technical complexity of the object combined with the uniqueness of each project.
Of course, in order to be able to cost a project and in this case that of promoting a website through SEO, requires an extensive analysis of many parameters in the context of a thorough website audit.
I got offer for $200 per month and $2,000 per month, which one to choose?
Every SEO agency offers and costs its services in a different way. However a key factor in seo is that it requires a lot of effort and time. So it would be good to avoid offers of $ 200 as in most cases they are either people who use unwanted (black-hat) techniques that will lead to a penalty from search engines, or they are independent workers (freelancers) thatcan not offer you the necessary guarantees.
An average cost for serach engine optimization services is between $800 and $1,500 per month. In order to organize your budget, you will have to calculate this amount for at least 6 months, maybe a little longer. People that will guaranteed first page of google in less than 3 months, are definitelly using black hat methods.
Why SEO costs so much?
Because as we mentioned before, in order to implement a complete SEO strategy, the company that will take over your website will have to carry out a huge number of actions and optimizations. Which of course requires effort, time and money.
